Technology & Projects

Technology Philosophy

Technology can be a wonderful tool and I am fortunate to be teaching in a technology rich 1:1 student ChromeBook environment. The ultimate goal is to teach subject concepts THROUGH technology, with technology helping to transform and globalize the task.  I strive to make activities more efficient and allow for greater differentiation and collaboration with technology as the vehicle.

Regularly Integrated Instructional Technology

  • Google Classroom

  • Genesis Gradebook

  • Remind

  • Schoolwires

  • Sibelius and Noteflight Music Notation

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Google Drive, Docs, Forms, Voice, and Sites

  • iWork: Pages, Numbers, Keynote (Apple Trained)

  • iLife: GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie (Apple Trained)

  • YouTube

  • ScreenCast-O-Matic & ScreenCastify

Sample Technology Integrated Projects

  • Concert Band- Students create pentatonic scale compositions in Ternary Form with sections varying between simple and compound meter. Students must utilize digital notation program for final product (ie: Noteflight) and share with director electronically. Teacher created introduction video for flipped learning of digital interface. Students perform and record final product for the class and then complete self evaluation and reflection on Google Forms after viewing their performance.

  • Music Technology- This class is largely based on utilizing GarageBand or SoundTrap functions and becoming familiar with different musical concepts. Students follow guidelines to create varying pieces of music based on given criteria. They publish their works on a digital portfolio they maintain and evaluate each project as it is completed. Teacher plans future reviews, lessons, and projects based on feedback from previous projects and reflections.

  • Chorus- Following the winter and spring concerts, students fill out an evaluation based on their memories of the performance. Then, they view their performance and fill in grids that focus on specific musical content (diction, phrasing, etc.) and how their reactions to the video differ from their initial impressions. Teacher uses data (which musical ideas did they rate the lowest?) to drive future instruction.

  • Music Appreciation- Choice board in lieu of formal test on Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Eras contains many options for technological displays of understanding, creativity, and synthesis.
